WHAT WE DO

We have awarded over $800,000 in scholarships in our 30+ year service to the Hispanic community. Many of our scholarship recipients go on to have successful careers in the Houston Media landscape and return to us to pay it forward.

President

Mayra Moreno

Mayra Moreno has been an anchor for ABC13 Eyewitness News since joining the station in October 2015.

Mayra was born in Guanajuato, Mexico, and raised in Houston, Texas where she attended the University of Houston and graduated Magna Cum Laude with a double major in Journalism and Spanish.

Erica Rico Contreras

Erica has ten kids, five grandkids, and hosts 93Q Country’s morning show.

Erica was voted the Hottest Woman in Radio and holds several Grand Champion titles with Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. She also hosts cooking shows and volunteers for several charities around Houston.

Fundraiser Chair

Viri Maldonado

Viri Maldonado is the founder of Social Click PR. The agency represents clients like Ford Latino, Correa Family Foundation, Grupo de Teatro Indigo, and many others.

Viri is a graduate from the University of Houston. For fun, Viri enjoys traveling and discovering new cuisines.

Membership Chair

Samara Perez

Samara Perez serves as the assistant director of Lemonade Day Houston. She hosts MLS NEXT Pro broadcasts and is a soccer sideline reporter for TUDN Houston 93.3 FM.

Samara earned her B.A. in Journalism with a concentration in Broadcasting and a Spanish minor from Texas Southern University in May 2020.

Scholarship Chair

Indira Zaldivar

As a two-time recipient of the HAHMP scholarship and a first-gen university graduate, Indira works to extend the HAHMP scholarship to others.

Indira is a bilingual multimedia journalist at Que Onda Magazine. She is a Texas Master Naturalist and a reggaeton fan of Honduran roots. She holds a masters in Technical Communication from UHD.

Secretary

Johanna Sanchez

Johanna is a Sales Assistant at Urban one. Previously, she was the TV Traffic Coordinator at Estrella Media.

After graduating from UHD, she worked at Audacy, where she served as a Producer for Sports Radio 610 and had the privilege of being the Producer for Mega 101’s Houston Texans games.

Treasurer

Frank Morales

Frank has served as treasurer of HAHMP since 2007, helping the organization record all financial needs and requirements as a non-profit.

Currently he is the senior finance director for Telemundo Houston and Telemundo McAllen.

Social Media Chair

Trey Serna

Trey is an experienced media professional, most recently serving as the Morning News Anchor for the ABC affiliate in South Texas.

Trey earned his BA in Journalism from the University of Texas, Pan American.

Website Chair

Eduardo Hernandez

Eduardo is the Tastemaker at the Thompson Houston Hotel, the fill-in ABC13 SkyEye reporter, and the fill-in helicopter photojournalist for KHOU Air11 and Telemundo Houston.

Eduardo graduated from Dartmouth College.
